What Champions league ban for Manchester City could mean for Arsenal, Man United

Image
Clubs that finished outside the Premier League top four could be drafted into the Champions League, if Manchester City are banned, the UK Mirror reports. City are facing a Champions League ban,  if they are found guilty of financial irregularities. The Premier League champions have been under investigation by a regulatory committee, over a series of leaks into their financial conduct. Officials from UEFA’s financial control board are set to submit their findings and will reportedly push for at least a one-year ban from Europe’s premier competition. It remains to be seen quite how hard UEFA come down on City, but a potential suspension would likely open the door for another Premier League club. As things stand, City will be joined in next season’s Champions League by Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea . Arsenal and Manchester United missed out, but the former could still qualify through the Europa League. Unai Emery’s men ended the season in fifth spot, but play Che...

Transfer: Solskjaer reveals players Man Utd want to sign this summer

Image
Manchester United Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said any signings the club makes this summer, must fit the culture and history of the club. United ended an underwhelming season with a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff at Old Trafford on Sunday, a result which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League and 32 points behind champions Manchester City. The Norwegian, who replaced Jose Mourinho in December, won just two of their final 12 fixtures in all competitions. As Solskjaer prepares for arguably United’s most important summer since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, he has spoken about the type of players he wants to sign. “You have to have a certain kind of attitude about you to make you a Manchester United player. “You have got to have the qualities and our fans want to see exciting players. “Of course we want to get up from our seats. We want to see defenders who defend like they’re doing it for their lives, that’s the most important thing. “We’ve tried to educate ou...

Aregbesola Reveals Why Nigerians should weep once every month

Image
Former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, says Nigerian citizens should observe a day of weeping every month. The Nation reports that he said this during the weekend at a symposium to mark the birthday party of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. Speaking on Nigeria’s population and the revenue it generates, Aregbesola said: “We don’t remember that we are poor here in Nigeria. If we have a deep thought, we ought to have a day of weeping every month. “If we don’t work harder to improve our fortunes, we would continue to be poor. In 2017, Brazil had a population of approximately 200 million people almost about what Nigeria had. “That year, Brazil had a revenue of about $600 billion and a budget of $700 billion. Nigeria in that same year made $13 billion and a budget of $23 billion. Are the two countries equal? “Today, OPEC allowed Nigeria to extract and sell 2million barrel of crude oil per day but we don’t get that quantity. Even if we get 2mil...

Between Okorocha and Fani-Kayode

Image
May 19, 2019 A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, is clearly not on good terms with Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. During an interactive session with journalists in Abuja recently, Okorocha stated that the evil he feared in the Peoples Democratic Party had befallen him 10 times over in the ruling All Progressives Congress, and HIGH SOCIETY learnt that Fani-Kayode was excited about the confession. After quitting the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Okorocha had joined the political coalition that morphed into the APC in 2014. But Okorocha is currently in troubled waters with the leadership of the APC for his alleged anti-party activities during the last governorship election in Imo State. Fani-Kayode, in reaction to Okorocha’s statement, tweeted that, “The Bible says ‘there is no peace for the wicked’.” That was indeed a direct jab at Okorocha, who is yet to respond to the ex-minister’s comment.

Pep Guardiola believes City must achieve consistent dominance to be considered ‘the best team in Premier League history.'

Image
The Champions secured back-to-back league titles with Sunday’s emphatic triumph at Brighton for the first time, tallying an astonishing 198 points spanning two record-breaking campaigns in the process. The achievement has sparked debate across the footballing world as to whether City’s accomplishments warrant the title of the greatest team in the competition’s history, but  Guardiola  asserts there is more to come yet from his side. “We feel incredible satisfaction,” he said. “Well done. We did a great job because our contender was incredible. “We are working on [reaching the levels of United and Liverpool’s top-flight success] but you can’t fight history. It would be unfair. “We have enjoyed an incredible two seasons but to be the best, we have to do it for a longer time. “We are part of ‘the best teams’ and that is enough. We are flattered a lot. “I accept that we want to be there and deserve to be there but to be the best ever? Maybe in another five years… ...
